Services

Napa Valley Support Services provides three programs
for individuals with disabilities in the Napa Valley:

Imperial Way

Brown Street Gallery

NPS

Vallejo Village Work Crew and Their Plaque

Imperial Way

For over forty years we have helped the people we serve and the Napa community grow together, working toward the goal of complete integration.

Through our day program services we offer to more than 90 individuals with disabilities:

TRAINING IN VOCATIONAL SKILLS: which involves working together in crews to do assembly, janitorial, yard work or clerical jobs. Work can range from .5 – 25 hours per week. Each person on the crew contributes as much as they are able and is paid accordingly. It is an opportunity to develop work skills in real work or sheltered work environments and receive continuous support.

INSTRUCTION IN DAILY LIVING SKILL: involves participating in health and beauty classes, learning cooking and money management skills, riding the bus and shopping for various necessities.

DEVELOPMENT OF RECREATION AND LEISURE SKILLS: includes creative art classes, music and movement, rhythmic arts, relaxation techniques and sports and exercise activities.

SUPPORT IN SOCIAL SKILLS: such as developing friendships, getting along with others, encouraging positive and respectful social interaction amongst peers and all people in the community.

BASIC EDUCATION: we also offer opportunities to develop computer skills, functional academics and communication skills as needed or requested by the individual.

In short, we offer the individuals we serve everything they need to become active members of the Napa Community. For more information , call (707) 253-0400.

Brown Street Gallery

Brown Street is a smaller, art-focused day program providing services for fewer than 30 individuals with developmental disabilities.

Individuals have the ability to earn money through the sale of their creative expressions. We have a table at the local Farmer's Market, and we also attend other community events throughout the year. We also have framed art displayed in various sites within the community. We provide training in daily living skills, extending individual abilities and skills to make use of community services.

Napa Personnel Systems

Napa Personnel Systems(NPS) offers support to more than 80 adults with disabilities who need assistance in finding a job. and/or maintaining employment.NPS also provides support as needed to currently employed adults. Depending on the individual's needs, the following services may be utilized:

A VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENT: a trial work period, with job sampling or shadowing to assess the individual's desires, needs and skills, in order to find the best match;

JOB DEVELOPMENT: during job development NPS negotiates job opportunities for an adult interested in working in the community, in either an individual or group placement.

JOB PLACEMENT: placement is used to determine if a developed job might be a good match. When a possible match is agreed upon, the interviewing begins and supoort is provided when necessary. Upon completion of the interviews a candidate is selected by the employer.

JOB TRAINING: this occurs with a job coach after an individual is chosen for a job. The job coach accompanies and trains the individual at every step of the way, providing all additional employment-related training and support, until fading instruction is appropriate. Active training is then faded, and the new focus becomes teaching the individual how to access information independently.

JOB MAINTENANCE: this is support offered to the individual and the employer, to maintain the goals of both parties. At its simplest, job maintenance means that the job coach continues to maintain regular contact with the individual and employer to ensure employment success. In the event further training is necessary, the employer or the employee may ask NPS for support.

JOB CREWS: these provide work opportunities to individuals who need continuous supervision and training while on the job. Support and instruction are provided during work hours to guarantee quality. Crews are generally made up of three to four individuals, supervised by a job coach.

Job Club: everyone finds it helpful to mingle with their peers and the Job Club offers just this kind of additional support. Activities include presentations from community representatives, group discussions of work-related issues, and recreational opportunities. Click here to see a curriculum and schedule.
