Robert Nations

Robert (“Bob”) Nations, President After  30 years in the toy industry, Robert began his journey of embracing his community.  He owns and operates a business called Senior Helpers North Bay.  For the past 15 years, he has served on the board of directors for Napa Valley Support Services and has been the Board President for the past 10 years and serves on the Governance, Audit and Resource Generation Committees.

In addition to being committed to NVSS, he serves on the Board of Director for Share the Care Napa Valley and has served as Board President since January 2022.

He served as the Board President for Senior Access in Marin County, Napa County Commission on Aging, the Solano County Section on Aging, and the Santa Rosa Health Committee.  In January 2020, he championed and opened a community training center.  

The center is a collaboration with The Meadows for Napa Valley and The Napa Independent School Districts Adult School program.

Peter Stephens, Vice President Peter moved to Napa in 2013 after spending almost 40 years in the financial and investment industries. After completing college and receiving a BA degree from Lehigh University, Peter spent three years as an infantry officer in the United Stated Marine Corps. He then returned to school and earned a J.D. from Suffolk University and a Master of Laws degree from Boston University.

His work experience includes staff attorney for the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, tax specialist for a Big 8 accounting firm and numerous positions in the financial and wealth management industry.

Since retiring in Napa, Peter enjoys golf and the many social and arts activities in the Napa Valley with his wife Kristine. Peter is a past Board member and two-term President of the Silverado Country Club. In addition to serving on the NVSS Board, Peter also serves on the Resource Generation and Governance committees.

Elizabeth Anderson

Elizabeth “Liz” Anderson, Secretary/Treasurer Liz grew up in Napa and lives here with her husband and 4 boys.  She has served on the NVSS board since 2014 and is part of the Audit Committee and Chairs the Finance Committee.  She has a BS degree from Sonoma State University and is a licensed CPA in California.  She currently works as a Senior Audit Manager for a CPA firm in Danville, CA.

Stephen Bakalyar, Director Stephen moved to the Bay Area after a childhood in Iowa and service as an Army Chemical Corps Officer in Alabama. He and wife Sonja have two adult children, one of whom has Down syndrome and until recently attended NVSS programs. Mr. Bakalyar has served as an NVSS board member for many years and serves on the Audit and Resource Generation Committees.

Stephen Bakalyar

He has an AB degree from UC Berkeley with majors in chemistry and biology. He had a career as a chemist in industry and has published research papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Now retired, he is a member of the California Writers Club and enjoys publishing poems, essays, and short stories in its anthologies.

Laura Srebro

Laura Srebro, Director Laura Srebro has volunteered her time with NVSS for almost a decade and joined the Board in 2015. Laura was raised in Napa and attended the University of Notre Dame for college and law school. She is a partner at Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass and practices in the area of estate planning and trust administration.

Alston (“Auty”) Hayne, Director A California native, Auty now lives in St. Helena with his wife Adrian. He was educated in the East, where he attended high school, college and graduate school. For twenty years, Auty ran his own business assisting students in various areas of tutoring, test preparations and college advising.

Now retired, Auty grows wine grapes on his family’s 120-year old vineyard and is an active volunteer with several organizations. 

Alston Hayne

His hero is Nicky, his special-needs brother. Auty has served on the NVSS BOD for approximately 4 years and serves on the Audit and Resource Generation Committees.

Gary Orton, Director Gary Orton has been a member of the NVSS Governance Committee since 2014. After graduating from UC Berkeley and Hastings College of the Law, he served as a USAF Staff Judge Advocate for four years with assignments in Virginia and Korea. A native of the Bay Area, he returned to civilian life to practice law and serve on numerous local government boards, including city council and mayor of Belmont, and thereafter as legal counsel to several sanitation district boards.

He moved to Hawaii in 2000 and then Napa in 2011 with the respective transfers of his physician wife. He helped found Napa Valley Writers, a branch of the California Writers Club, and held offices as president and treasurer. Upon his wife’s retirement, they moved to Santa Rosa. Their daughter is a former NVSS staff assistant. His son, also a UC Berkeley graduate, is a fire-fighter paramedic.
